The Last Days of Pompeii: The Immersive Exhibition takes visitors on a journey through one of history's most dramatic moments, bringing the ancient city back to life before its sudden destruction.
Using state-of-the-art technology, visitors can explore the streets of Pompeii, step inside the Villa of the Mysteries, (one of the most well preserved suburban ancient Roman villas on the outskirts of Pompeii) witness the grandeur of the amphitheatre and experience the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The exhibition combines immersive projections, virtual reality, a metaverse experience and a curated collection of artefacts to create a deeply engaging and educational visit.
Immersive Hall – A stunning 360º projection that brings Pompeii's streets to life, showing daily life before the eruption and its eventual destruction.
Virtual Reality Experience – An immersive journey that places visitors inside the Roman amphitheatre, experiencing Pompeian entertainment firsthand, from chariot races to gladiatorial battles.
Please note: This virtual reality experience includes a gladiator fight with elements of violence that may be sensitive for some audiences, as well as a staged naval battle (naumachia) which took place in flooded auditoriums of ancient Pompeii. If you have any concerns about the suitability of the content for yourself or members of your group then please speak to a member of the on-site team.
Metaverse Room – Visitors become avatars and explore the Villa of Mysteries, walking freely through its stunning frescoed rooms, gardens, and bathhouses.
Scenic Built Area – A beautifully recreated peristyle garden, amphitheatre, and fountains, allowing visitors to physically enter a Roman environment.
Artefacts Room – Displays a curated selection of artefacts from prestigious collections, including Roman glass, marble sculptures, and gladiatorial equipment. This area also features a Volcano Area, which explores the eruption's geological impact and presents the famous body casts of Pompeii's victims.
The Archaeological Explorer Room - An interactive and educational dimension where visitors are encouraged to take on the role of an archaeologist, exploring interactive maps and uncovering concealed artefacts from digital sandpits.
AI Photo Booth – Visitors can see themselves transformed into a Pompeian aristocrat before the eruption, with historically accurate attire and styling.
Graffiti Station – Leave your own inscription, drawing or phrase, echoing the graffiti once scrawled across the walls of the city years ago.
Soundtrack – The exhibition features an original soundtrack by composer and music producer René Merkelbach, recorded with a live orchestra, blending classical Roman-inspired compositions with cinematic scoring.
On average, visitors spend approximately 90 minutes exploring the full experience, depending on engagement levels in each section.
There are limited vegan and gluten-free catering options within the main Excel boulevard but not within the exhibition itself. Restaurants in the main boulevard aren’t always open. Please check the Excel website for more information: https://www.Excel.london/visitor/food-drink and plan ahead.
